How do I prevent siphoning?
If the air pump is placed lower than the water level, siphoning of the water can occur when the pump is shut off. This could be disastrous and can be avoided by placing a non-return valve in the pipe. However, these valves cause pressure loss which make the aeration system less efficient. A better solution is to place the pump higher than the water level.
