Outside air is made of + / 20 % O2 in order to dissolve the 20 % oxygen in to water, it is necessary to diffuse the air in small bubbles. If these bubbles meet the requirements, one can calculate the oxygen transfer with a formula. The aeration depth is a very determining factor. In addition, there are a number of factors that we merge into an Alpha and Beta factor. With this formula one can determine how much air is needed to meet the oxygen demand.
Air Input capacity (m3 / h) = oxygen demand / alpha factor / factor beta = oxygen transfer capacity (kg / hr) / (specific oxygen transfer capacity (02 kg / Nm3 / m) * aeration depth (m)
When this is calculated, one needs to determine how to distribute the air in order to get a homogeneous oxygen content in the water. This is yet more practical experience than number crunching. Also, this formula does not take into account the BOD and COD.
